maths review 2015

In my maths this year I have made big progress in many different ways. such as geometry where I can draw lines of symmetry. Practicing on IXL has made a big difference to my learning. I have also struggled in some ways. The ones I most struggled with in fractions. The hardest thing in fractions was knowing the order - what the number at the top means. IXL is helping me with all my maths. I have moved up and am very proud.

Impact mural art

Today for I Drive I did something different instead I did my impact mural. For our mural we are doing Marama. We fell behind so it was a good time to catch up. The reason why we fell behind because we did our moon to small and the we had to do two more coat of paint. We also changed the piece of wood vertical so that the moon would be a lot bigger. We also changed where we put Marama  instead of putting it the moon we put it in the sea. We changed some other thing like adding in  a water fall going down to the water. To help get some cool ideas we called in Kat she help lay out and make our designs stand out more. We think we are going to stick our design on the back of the toilets. I can't wait to see what the murals will term out to be like.  The learn power I used to day was resilience because because we did not have a big enough thing to trace for the moon.  The skill I used to day was team work because we had to paint the mural so the marker was not visible.

High jump

Our school athletics is coming up so we have been spending time practicing. The one I have been practicing for this week is high jump. In high jump the thing I most need to work is my landing other wise I think I have the hang of it . Here is a video below

Why do we have Labour day?

Labour day is held on the fourth Monday in October. It dates back to the 1840s when Samuel Parnell refused to work more than eight hours a day. The first Labour Day was celebrated in New Zealand on the 28th of October and others followed along with the idea.  Government employees were given the day off to go to the parades and many businesses closed for at least part of the day. Early Labour Day parades drew huge crowds in places such as Palmerston North and Napier as well as in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. There were colorful banners and highly decorated floats, and the parades were followed by popular picnics and even sports events.

Idrive reflection

Today we did the the first iDrive for term four. Me, Georgia and Ayisha did chalk. First we had to think of  a theme, we chose calf club because it is coming up. To begin with we wrote calf club in big block letters that had grass under. On every letter there was some sort of pattern. After that was done we started working on a cow we all worked on that in different ways. The cow had two trophies on each side of it, three ribbons were blue and two ribbons were around it.  The two learning powers we used is problem solving because there was a cow face that was purple so we all had to go over the purple with white.   The second one I think we used was connections because we had to join the designs together. 1444872682760.9.jpg

Learning in the making conference

  Learning in the making  conference

Last Friday was a very fun Friday. It was the Learning in the Making conference.

                             First breakout
I did shell collage. We got a big piece of cardboard and four little pieces of cardboard. There was a station that had all different types of shells. We glued them all on and once we had got all the messy bits of glue off we could spray paint it and leave it to dry.

                             Second break out
I did tie dye and we used a white t-shirt. It was not any old tie dye, it was sharpie tie dye. Sharpie tie dye is when you get a jar or a bowl and a rubber band and wrap it around the t-shirt on the jar twice so it is tight. Then you draw your design and get this liquid called alcohol. You fill it half way into a eye drop dropper and drop it in the middle of your design. Watch it spread and wait for it to dry and take the rubber band off.

                   break out three/ break four
Break out three was a double session. I did paper mache. But it was more like decorating it. I did a doll there were also fish, owl and a bird. We also used textured wallpaper. We could also paint over top we then could glue these cool little decorations to personalize it.

iDrive

Today Georgia,Freya, Lara and I did iDrive. We decided to make a girl named Isabella out of play dough. I did the dress, Freya did the patterns on the dress, Georgia did the head and Lara did the arms and feet. To decorate it we used spots bows and pasta. It did not take very long to make Isabella it took around 5 minutes to make her.

The learning  power I used to day was problem solving because the face did not stand out.
I also used resilience because we had a bad neck and needed to work on it to improve it.

IDrive

Today I did iDrive with Ayisha. We did a new thing which was building. It was hard to begin with as we couldn't work out how to use the saw properly but it got easier as we went on. We started off by finding our materials like wood, nails and a hammer. Now for the fun stuff. We got hold of a saw and started with that then we sanded some wood. Once we had finished with the saw we got two bits of wood - one bigger and glued them together. Then we had to bang two nails into the two pieces of wood. Then we needed to get two other nails and bang them into the pieces of wood that we had just glued. Next we went inside to draw on the little bits of wood that were hanging. I had CH and Ayisha  had EESE then that spells cheese then we decorated them. I problem solved when we were trying to put the pieces of wood together with nails but it did not work so we hot glued it. The Learning Power I used the most today was Resilience - 'I can't do it yet'. We did do it!

What makes the ocean blue when water is clear?

Image result for clear water in a cupThe reason why the ocean looks blue  yet water is clear. When light strikes water such as sun light the water filters the light so that the red and other colours like green ,orange and yellow is absorbed. This only leaves the blue light that reflected off the water.

Box modelling

This morning I did box modelling with Georgia. We made a house and

I cooperated with Georgia by working with her, deciding what to do and sharing my ideas. To make our box models we used bottle tops ,buttons, fabric, crepe paper and stickers . we still have to finish by sticking it together.

My term two art reflection

I first began by choosing what art group I was interested in. We had three art groups to choose from. (Houses, Birds, Pacific) I went in the House group Lets get starer.

First step was to grab a piece of paper and computer in case I needed to put some ideas down. I had to find pictures of houses on hills and choose one that I liked. Finally the fun stuff happened and I created my design. I got a big bit of white paper with the lino in it and scribble madly until the square is covered with pencil that will leave a light out line for you to copy and make a dark traces on the lino.

Time for the main thing -  carving. I carved my tree, chimney and a roof out ready to ink up. Once my lino piece was inked and printed I had to wash it and leave it to dry. I then had carve out some more. I had to do this three times to get three layers. It was really confusing trying to work out what I wanted left a certain colour. I had to cut out that on my lino.

my school break

My school break was awesome we went up to Auckland to see my family. But it took a wee while to get there, because there was so much traffic. But that did not matter because there where such beautiful lights from the city. But the lights distract me it was time that we all could sit down for dinner. Now on to pudding we had a berry cake and a pavlova that looked like a ballerina tutu. We all got $30 dollars each from great uncle Phil. we could use it to spend it on anything we wanted. The day became to a end we all said by to my uncle Phil and go to bed. The next day was even more cooler we went to the mall spend or money that we had got the night before. we walked for a while then we found the place I wanted to go to. Kmart we found what I had be hoping for. A big spotty pillow it is the same one that we used in or J rock dance. But sadly the day had to come to a end we went home and relax.

J rock finals

The day is here!!! We arrive at Claudelands arena Hamilton around 9:30am and get handed a bright yellow wristband to wear through the day.We all get together with a whole lot of other schools in the auditorium.Where we sang ‘let it go’ from Frozen and ‘shake it off’ by Taylor Swift. We went back to our dressing room where we played all around the circle. At about 3:00pm we started our make up we got most of it done. We had our rehearsal at 4:00pm in front of all the other schools. We had three practices. Then we had another meeting in the auditorium where we  sang ‘do you want to build a snowman’ from Frozen and ‘dark horse’ by Katy Perry. The night began, we were the second to perform, you couldn't really see the  audience because it was dark. At the end of our performance we went up stairs that led us to the sets up high. Here are some photos of the night.
