Trem four reflection

What have I enjoyed this term
  • I have enjoyed working on my art because I liked my idea and how it turned out.
  • I have enjoyed the stickers because it is exciting to see what the next thing will be.
  • I have enjoyed working on our impact because it is exciting to see it finished.

What has been challenging this term

  • The most challenging thing this term was art because we had to layer cardboard on top of another piece of cardboard, I wasn't sure how I should layer it.

  • The most challenging thing this term was my literacy IXL because I didn't understand some of the questions.

  • The most challenging thing this term was my homework challenge because my paint would chip off and the dirt from the flowers got everywhere.

Next year I am looking forward to camp because there will be fun activities, I am also looking forward to swimming sports because I love swimming sports.

Homework challenge

Homework challenge

This week we have been given a homework challenge. For this challenge, we have to create something using a milk bottle, I have done a pot plant. For my pot plant, I had to cut off the bottom so that the plant could fit in then I had to paint, vivid the facials and the pattern then plant the flowers in it.

So far I am up to doing a second coat on my milk bottle, the most challenging thing was painting it because I had done my plan in vivid so I had to do a lot of coats. The paint also started to chip off so I have to do a second coat which might be hard because there is a flower in it.

Earthquake

Last  Monday two minutes after midnight a 7.8 earthquake shook the upper East Coast of the South Island many homes were damaged and  evacuated. It had destroyed roads farms and knocked down trees, the 7.8 earthquake was flowed by around about thousands of aftershocks.
An earthquake occurs when the tectonic plates rub together making the ground move when the plates move they separate and make big cracks in the ground.

In many towns up the East Coast of North and South Island had tsunamis warnings to signal them to stay clear of the coastline and move to higher ground. Many people have been affected by this earthquake people can’t go to work, teenagers couldn’t finish their exams, truck drivers and farmers families and many more were affected by the earthquake.

Year six bike ride

Year six bike ride

Last Friday the year sixes did a bike ride, we started in Paeroa at a farm and went to the Karangahake Gorge and back. We went down a gravel track, it took around about one hour, until we got to the tunnel. The tunnel was dark but it was not as dark as I remembered it. Once we came out of the tunnel we went down to see a waterfall, we also saw a goat called Holly. We arrived at the battery around one o'clock, we sat down and ate lunch then went to explore. We went over a bridge and saw a huge hole in the ground that was used for gold mining we also hopped into an old train carriage, then we headed back.

On our way back we went a different way instead of going through the tunnel. We walked our bikes along a very tight track, we came to another bridge and then went up a hill then we went through a bush until we arrived back at the farm.

Learning in the making conference

Learning in the making conference

On Friday we had the learning in the making conference. The learning in the making conference is about using your learning powers and  collaborate with others.  At the start, we handed out our lanyards and went over to Marma to listen to a guest speaker.  After that, we went to our first break out.

Break out one
My first breakout was funky corner bookmarks they were really easy to make once you got the hang of it. My favorite thing about them was that you could personalize them any way you want. I made a cat, unicorn, and a fox.

Break out two

For my second breakout, I did funky room decoration for that, we could make a spider, a flower, things out of paper or a butterfly. I made a spider. For the body of it, you used a flower pot. You could stick sparkly things on. You could draw faces on we even used googly eyes!  We went  around the sparkly things. Then we attached legs with a hot glue gun we also had to use the hot glue gun for the antennas. My spider ended up looking like a lady bug/spider. My favorite thing about this workshop was that there were so many options.

Break out three
For break out there I did my life weaving. For my life weaving, you would find  lace to tell your life story. I chose to do mine in a pattern. I had mint lace then I had fabric that was white and had a flower pattern at the end I covered my canvas in two different colors but the same fabric so it would look like patchwork. Then you would stick the cardboard to your fabric. My favorite thing about the workshop was that there was so much lace you could choose from.

                                     Break out four
For breakout four, I did cooking we made caramel slice. The first step was to put in the flour then the oats then sugar. We melted the butter so we could put in with the condensed milk which made caramel. While we were making caramel we put the oats in the oven to cook. After the oats were cooked we put the caramel on top. We made the icing to put on the top but it would not be cold enough. So she had made one at her house so we could eat that one and she could take the one we made home.  My favorite thing in cooking was you could eat it.

What I thought
My favorite workshop I did was cooking because it was something I don't do much and you got to eat it. I had learned lots of things from each different workshop special cooking. I think the learning in the making conference is a great idea and I can't wait until next year.

My Hoilday

Whangamata

It was the  second Sunday in the holidays and I was going to Whangamata to stay with Georgia and Freya. When I arrived we played capture the flag we got bored after a while. So we went in and watched a movie called Joy. The next day we went  shopping. We decide to prank the others so we bought fake blood. We did the prank the next day but they didn’t fall for it. That day we went for a swim at the estuary. That same day Freya left the beach. Later on we heard a siren go we thought it was a tsunami and started to freak out turns out they were just testing them.

We went for two other swims the next day and meet a pug called Darcy. The last night we went out for dinner and went to the movies. The movie we went to see was called Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children. We also decide to watch Eddie the Eagle and we wanted to do an all nighter so we did. We played monplay which took about five hours and we just talked the rest of the night. We ate pancakes the next day and then left the beach.

Art

Whetu Art

This term Whetu has been working on string art the first step was to find a template to find you template you had to look on pinterest. Once you had found a template that suits you. You would then blu tack it to your wood to keep it still so you could hammer around your template. I found the nailing easier than the wrapping around the nails with the string. I fell behind because I was doing art with Mrs B and got most of my art done in one day. I have still not finished my art but hopefully it is done by this Friday. I have chosen an arrow to do for mine. I choose an arrow because not many people were doing one. I am happy with what I have done so far and can't wait to see it finished.

Olympics

The Rio Olympics 2016

This Year the Olympics are being held at Roi they start on August the fifth. There are 42 summer sports played in the Olympics. The Summer Olympics are held every four years. This is the first time Roi has ever held the Olympics. New Zealand has been part of the Olympics since London 1908. Over 24 years New Zealand  has collected 99 medals. 42 golds, 18 silvers and 39 bronzes. Its hundredth medal should come at Rio 2016. New Zealand shows the most success in sports like Rugby, Golf, Rowing and Canoe sprint.

I am looking forward to watching gymnastics rhythmic, gymnastics artistic and swimming. The reason why I like watching gymnastics artistic and gymnastics rhythmic because  you don't see these sports played much.  The reason why I like watching swimming is because it is interesting what times they get.

Speech

My speech

My speech is about the Eiffel tower I chose this topic because the Eiffel tower is a very interesting and has amazing history. This topic was easy to find information about but hard to put it together. It was hard to put together because there was so much to say and I did not know how to order it. The reason why it was easy to find information was because the Eiffel tower is such a well known monument. I was thinking of changing my topic but when I changed a few things it was easy to work with.  I am a bit nervous for presenting my speech to everyone.  The hardest part of writing my speech was putting it all together. The hardest part of presenting for me is to speak loud enough for people to hear me.

Home work

Homework

I got my idea from my birthday cake because the cylinder look like a perfect unicorn neeck. My Mum helped me a little but I did most of the work. I paper mached over the cylinder, then for the head I used a balloon.  But the balloon had shrunk so it all collapsed. I had to find  a new idea. It end up being a drum with a unicorn painted on it. It was not what I want but it was still cool. I liked the hamburger because it was a clever idea and I liked the head that Georgia did because it looked like a Picasso head.

Sport Report

On Saturday we were all warmed up ready to play Maramarua in netball. Ding ding the buzzer went. The team we were playing thought we were in the third round but we were in the first. We had a choice to win by default or play. We all wanted to play them because we had beaten them two times. The first time we beat them by ten and they got 4 and the second time the score was twenty one, four to us. We waited and waited and waited then we took the court. I played goal attack I think I played terrible I only got four goals in and two intercepts but I was happy with how many intercepts I got. We were in the lead for a while then they started to take over and we got tired which slowed us down. I think we could of played better but we had really got defence. I was sad that we lost by two. The score was eight ten to them.

I am very proud of myself in sports so far I also got in to reps which I am proud of.

Holly holiday recount

I spent some of my holiday with Freya. I went there on Friday night because we had to get there quite early for the next day for a run at Waitomo trail run.
We took a team photo and hoped in the car. It was a really long car ride! Freya and I both fell asleep. As we slowly woke up we got closer to the place with a big apple to get our numbers. Then we had to move to a rugby field with lots of parks. There were hundreds of people there. We had to wait for ages to hop on the bus. When we arrive at the start we went through the rules. Then we went down some spiral stairs that remind me of the Hunger Games. After we got a photo taken of the team we had to go back up to the top and started to run a different track. We took lots of photos and looked at the views. Once we got about halfway there a food stand with water, lollies sandwich and chips. Once we had past that we carried on that's when we went over hills. As we got closer to the finish line we could hear cheering in the distance. After we finished we had to wait for Marc and Roz. We did not expect to run in to Art Green. He was so tall we got a really cool photo with him. We went to the pub down the road for something to drink and eat. We headed over to the park. We took so more photos then  we walked down to the car and headed to the big apple place and got a big ice cream mmmm. Our times time where 51 minutes 53 seconds and we were the 73rd team out of 110 teams.

My flag post

In the flag debate I support our original flag because tons of people had this flag through war and died under it. My other reason why I support this flag was because it would be a waste of New Zealand's money when they could use if for needed reason like fixing Christchurch. As well when New Zealand Athletes win medals at the Olympics it wouldn't be the same. I was glad when they announced that we were keeping the original flag.

Holly's Easter post

Easter is a Christian festival which celebrates the  death  of Jesus Christ.  The reason why we have good Friday is because it was the day Jesus was put on the cross and Easter Sunday is the day he rose from the dead. The way I celebrate Easter is by getting up early and trying and find the Easter eggs before anybody else does. Then we eat them. After that we go to my grandparents house in Auckland and eat more eggs. But the thing we do most Easter is go to my gran and pops for a family Easter egg hunt and have an Easter egg pudding which is really good!
The reason why we have Easter eggs is because for Christians the egg is a symbol of Jesus as when they are cracked open they stand for the empty pit.  The reason we have hot cross buns is because some Christians fast on Good Friday. This helps them remember the sacrifice Jesus made for them on the day of crucifixion. It is also traditional to eat warm hot cross buns on Good Friday.
